Karma Yoga Caretaker Exchange program

New Zealand, Anahata Yoga retreat, work exchange, room and board

Anahata Yoga Retreat is opening its doors to volunteers in an interesting and meaningful way. The retreat, known for its peaceful setting and dedication to conscious living, is currently seeking a Karma Yoga Caretaker – and it might just be the opportunity you didn’t know you were looking for.

Anahata is inviting individuals or couples to step into a more intentional way of life, one rooted in sustainability, simplicity, and service.

The work exchange

In exchange for approximately 20 hours of work per week, volunteers are offered a slice of paradise: onsite accommodation, access to fresh produce from the organic garden, spring-fed water, a wood-fired sauna, and use of the tranquil Yoga Temple for personal practice.

The caretaking role isn’t glamorous, but it is grounding. Volunteers help

  • maintain the land,
  • manage key infrastructure like solar and water systems,
  • prep spaces for guests, and tend the garden.

The work is hands-on and essential, especially as the retreat transitions to new ownership and looks to preserve the space’s long-standing values.

Requirements

Applicants are asked to commit to a minimum of three months, with the possibility of extension.

It’s a chance to slow down, reconnect with nature, and contribute meaningfully to a community that truly values mindful living.

Anahata Yoga Retreat sits beside Abel Tasman National Park, one of New Zealand’s most breathtaking natural reserves. The location itself is remote – no light or noise pollution, just birdsong and forest air, but that’s part of the appeal.

You’re off the grid, but deeply connected.

This kind of volunteer exchange is for those who value sustainability, personal growth, and a slower rhythm.

You’ll come away with new skills and a deeper sense of purpose and presence.
