How to use this archive
Open the opportunity that interests you and check its publication date, exact location and current availability. Look for the contact details at the end of the listing to find the host’s website, email address or application procedure.
Before accepting an opportunity, confirm the activities, weekly hours, days off, accommodation, meals, local transport, minimum stay and any fees, deposits or other financial arrangements directly with the host.
Some opportunities may be fair exchanges with no mandatory participant fee, while others may request a contribution or programme fee. If a payment is required, ask for the exact amount, what it covers and the applicable cancellation or refund conditions before making a commitment.
Voluntouring does not organise placements, select volunteers, arrange visas or mediate between volunteers and hosts. Publication on Voluntouring.org does not in itself constitute verification, endorsement or a recommendation of an organisation or programme.
Afghanistan safety notice
Important: current official travel advice warns against all travel to Afghanistan. The security situation remains extremely dangerous, with significant risks including detention, kidnapping and terrorism, while consular assistance may be severely limited.
Existing Afghanistan pages on Voluntouring should therefore be treated as historical or informational content, not as current invitations to travel for volunteering.
Borders, remote areas and practical safety
Central Asian projects may be located in mountain regions or close to international borders, where access conditions can change quickly. Border crossings may close at short notice and some areas require additional permits or registration.
Particular caution is appropriate near parts of the Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan border, where mines and unexploded ordnance may remain. Use recognised border crossings, follow local instructions and avoid leaving established roads or paths in affected areas.
For remote or high-altitude projects, confirm seasonal road access, communications, medical facilities, emergency transport and whether your insurance covers the activities and locations involved.
Visas and volunteering
Entry, registration and work rules vary considerably across Central Asia. Tourist or visa-free entry should not automatically be assumed to permit employment, teaching, commercial work exchanges or every form of volunteering.
Ask the host which immigration arrangement applies to the proposed activities and verify it independently with the relevant embassy or immigration authority before travelling. An invitation from a host does not by itself guarantee entry or make an activity legally permitted.
