Russia 🇷🇺
This page contains archived volunteering opportunities in Russia, including historical work exchanges, community projects, farms, educational activities, eco-projects and hospitality experiences previously published on Voluntouring.org.
Some hosts or organisations may still exist or respond to enquiries, but an active listing does not mean that travelling to Russia is currently safe, insurable or appropriate. Always check current official advice before making any arrangements.
Current safety warning
Important: current official travel advice from several governments advises against all travel to Russia. Reported risks include security incidents related to the war in Ukraine, drone attacks, terrorism, detention risks, transport disruption and severely limited consular assistance.
Travelling against official government advice may also affect travel insurance and access to assistance if something goes wrong.
Voluntouring does not recommend travelling to Russia in response to an online volunteer or hospitality-exchange announcement while these warnings remain in effect.
Check the latest official travel advice for Russia and the guidance issued specifically for your nationality before considering travel.
How to use this archive
Treat the announcements below primarily as historical or informational material. Check the original publication date and do not assume that contact details, schedules, accommodation arrangements, prices or visa information remain current.
If you contact a host for information, confirm its current identity, location and activities independently. An invitation or confirmation from a host does not remove wider security, immigration or legal risks.
Before considering any future opportunity, confirm the proposed activities, working hours, accommodation, meals and any fees, deposits or financial arrangements directly with the host.
If a participant fee or contribution is requested, ask for the exact amount, what it covers and the applicable cancellation or refund conditions. A fee does not automatically indicate either the quality or the social value of a programme.
Voluntouring does not organise placements, select volunteers, arrange visas or provide security assistance. Publication on Voluntouring.org does not in itself constitute verification, endorsement or a recommendation of an organisation or programme.
Visas, volunteering and local laws
Entry and immigration requirements depend on nationality and the activities involved. A tourist visa should not automatically be assumed to permit teaching, employment, commercial work exchanges or every form of volunteering.
Do not accept instructions to hide the nature of your activities or provide misleading information to immigration or border authorities. Any visa, registration or work requirements should be verified through official sources.
Foreign nationals may also face legal restrictions concerning demonstrations, political activities, journalism, photography and other sensitive activities. Security measures and local restrictions can change at short notice.
Payments and practical arrangements
International banking and payment services may be restricted or unavailable, and sanctions can affect transactions with particular organisations or individuals. Do not attempt to bypass applicable financial restrictions or use informal intermediaries without understanding the legal implications.
Remote and rural projects can also involve limited transport, communications and medical facilities. If considering any future placement, confirm how you could leave independently and whether appropriate insurance is available for the destination and activities involved.
For additional guidance, read Voluntouring’s information about visas for volunteering and safety and legality in volunteering and work exchanges.
Important: security conditions, sanctions, transport options, project availability and immigration requirements can change rapidly. Use current official sources rather than relying on historical listings when making decisions.
