The UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office currently advises against all travel to Russia. Risks include security incidents related to the war in Ukraine, drone attacks, terrorism, detention and disruption to transport, while consular assistance may be limited. Travelling against official advice can also affect travel insurance.
Voluntouring does not recommend travelling to Russia in response to an online volunteer or hospitality-exchange listing while these warnings remain in effect. Check the latest official travel advice and the guidance issued by your own government before considering travel.

Visas and local laws
Entry and immigration requirements depend on nationality and the activities involved. Tourist status should not automatically be assumed to permit teaching, employment, commercial work exchanges or every form of volunteering.
Do not hide the nature of your activities or provide misleading information to immigration or border authorities. Foreign nationals may also be subject to restrictions concerning demonstrations, political activity, journalism, photography and other sensitive activities, and local rules can change at short notice.
Payments and practical arrangements
International payment methods may be restricted or unavailable in Russia, and sanctions applicable to your nationality can affect transactions with particular banks, organisations or individuals. Foreign-issued Visa and Mastercard cards currently do not work at Russian shops or ATMs, and some international bank transfers may also be unavailable.
Do not attempt to circumvent applicable financial restrictions. Before considering any future stay, check how you could access funds, leave independently and obtain insurance that remains valid for the destination and activities involved.
