How to use this page
Open the opportunity that interests you and read the complete announcement. Check the publication date and look for the contact details at the end of the listing to find the host’s website, email address or application procedure.
Before applying, confirm the activities, weekly hours, days off, accommodation, meals, local transport, minimum stay and any fees, deposits, pocket money or other financial arrangements directly with the host.
Voluntouring does not organise placements, select volunteers, arrange visas or mediate between volunteers and hosts. Publication on Voluntouring.org does not in itself constitute verification, endorsement or a recommendation of an organisation or programme.
Accommodation, meals and participant fees
Some opportunities may be fair exchanges with no mandatory participant fee and may include accommodation or meals. Others may request a contribution or programme fee, while a smaller number of listings may involve stipends, pocket money or paid work.
A participant fee does not automatically make a project more or less responsible, effective or appropriate. If payment is required, ask for the exact amount, what it covers and the applicable payment, cancellation and refund conditions before making a commitment.
Voluntouring does not process participant payments between volunteers and hosts. Financial arrangements described in a listing should be confirmed directly with the organisation concerned.
Visas, local rules and insurance
Entry and immigration requirements vary considerably between Central American countries and depend on your nationality, length of stay and planned activities. Unpaid help may still be treated as work in some circumstances.
Do not assume that tourist or visa-free entry automatically permits every form of volunteering, hospitality exchange, farm work, teaching or employment. Voluntouring does not arrange visas or guarantee entry. A host may or may not be able to provide supporting documentation depending on the project and local rules, so verify the requirements independently with the relevant immigration authority or consulate.
Make sure any travel insurance you choose covers the specific destination and activities involved in the project.
For additional guidance, read Voluntouring’s information about visas for volunteering abroad and safety and legality in volunteering and work exchanges.
Important: project availability, participant fees, immigration requirements and local conditions can change. Confirm current information directly with the host and relevant official authorities before making travel or financial commitments.
