Projects involving children or vulnerable people should have appropriate safeguarding procedures, supervision and clear role boundaries. Volunteers should confirm carefully what responsibilities they will actually have before applying.
Voluntouring does not organise placements, select volunteers, arrange visas or mediate between volunteers and host organisations. It does not process participant payments between volunteers and hosts. Visas and entry requirements
Entry requirements depend on your nationality, length of stay and purpose of travel. Do not assume that a visa intended for tourism or a short visit automatically covers organised volunteering or other regular activities.
The Sierra Leone Immigration Department provides official information about visas and immigration services, including its eVisa and permit systems. Confirm the appropriate status before travelling if volunteering is the purpose of your stay.
Health and travel preparation
Current entry requirements include a valid yellow fever vaccination certificate. Travellers entering or leaving Sierra Leone are also required to complete a health travel declaration before travel.
Healthcare facilities can be limited, particularly outside Freetown. Make sure your insurance covers the destination, planned activities, medical treatment and possible evacuation, and consult current travel advice for Sierra Leone before departure.
