Before applying, confirm the activities, weekly hours, days off, supervision, accommodation, meals, local transport, minimum stay and any fees, deposits or other financial arrangements directly with the host.

Future opportunities may include fair exchanges with no mandatory participant fee as well as programmes that request a contribution or participation fee. If payment is required, ask for the exact amount, what it covers and the applicable payment, cancellation and refund conditions before making a commitment.

Projects involving children, healthcare or vulnerable people should have appropriate safeguarding procedures, supervision and clear role boundaries. Make sure the proposed activities match your experience and qualifications.

Visas and volunteering in Cameroon

Entry requirements depend on your nationality, length of stay and planned activities. Do not assume that visitor or tourist status automatically permits every form of volunteering, teaching, employment or work exchange.

Cameroon operates an official online consular system for visa applications. Check the current requirements through the official Cameroon eVisa portal and ask the host which immigration arrangement applies to your proposed activities.

Current travel considerations

Important: security conditions vary considerably across Cameroon. Current official travel advice warns against travel to several areas of the Far North, North-West and South-West regions, as well as some border areas, because of risks including armed violence, terrorism and kidnapping.

If a future project is located in northern Cameroon, an Anglophone region or near an international border, confirm its exact location and consult current travel advice for Cameroon before departure.
