Open the opportunity that interests you and read the complete announcement. Look for the contact details at the end of the listing to find the organisation’s website, email address or application procedure.

Before applying, confirm the activities, weekly hours, days off, supervision, accommodation, meals, local transport, project dates and any fees, deposits or other financial arrangements directly with the host.

Some opportunities may be fair exchanges with no mandatory participant fee, while others may request a contribution or programme fee. If payment is required, ask for the exact amount, what it covers and the applicable payment, cancellation and refund conditions before making a commitment.

Projects involving children, healthcare or vulnerable people should have appropriate safeguarding procedures, supervision and clear role boundaries. Make sure the proposed activities match your experience and qualifications.

Voluntouring does not organise placements, select volunteers, arrange visas or mediate between volunteers and hosts. It does not process participant payments between volunteers and host organisations. Publication on Voluntouring.org does not in itself constitute verification, endorsement or a recommendation of an organisation or programme. Visas and volunteering in Rwanda

Entry and immigration requirements depend on your nationality, length of stay and planned activities. Do not assume that visitor status automatically permits every form of volunteering, teaching, employment or work exchange.

Rwanda’s immigration system includes a specific P1 permit for certain voluntary work carried out through qualifying organisations. This does not automatically cover every informal or commercial exchange.

Ask the host which immigration arrangement applies to your activities and verify it independently through the Rwanda Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration before travelling.

Current travel considerations

Security conditions require additional attention near parts of Rwanda’s border with the Democratic Republic of Congo. Current travel advice warns against all but essential travel within parts of Rusizi District close to the DRC border, and border crossings can close at short notice.

If a project is located near Lake Kivu, Rusizi or another international border area, confirm its exact location and consult current travel advice for Rwanda before departure.
