Open the opportunity that interests you and read the complete announcement. Look for the contact details at the end of the listing to find the organisation’s website, email address or application procedure.

Before applying, confirm the activities, weekly hours, days off, supervision, accommodation, meals, local transport, project dates and any fees, deposits or other financial arrangements directly with the host.

Some opportunities may be fair exchanges with no mandatory participant fee, while others may request a contribution or programme fee. If payment is required, ask for the exact amount, what it covers and the applicable payment, cancellation and refund conditions before making a commitment.

Projects involving children, healthcare or vulnerable people should have appropriate safeguarding procedures, supervision and clear role boundaries. Professional activities should only be undertaken when the volunteer has the appropriate qualifications and local authorisation.

Voluntouring does not organise placements, select volunteers, arrange visas or mediate between volunteers and hosts. It does not process participant payments between volunteers and host organisations. Visas and volunteering in Tanzania

Entry and immigration requirements depend on your nationality, length of stay and planned activities. Tanzania’s Ordinary Visa is primarily intended for tourism and other permitted short visits and does not authorise employment.

Tanzania also has a Residence Permit Class C specifically covering certain volunteers and interns. For qualifying volunteer placements, the immigration procedure can require documentation including a volunteer contract, job description and evidence relating to the host organisation.

Do not assume that tourist entry automatically permits structured volunteering or a regular work exchange. Ask the host which arrangement applies and verify it through the Tanzania Immigration Services Department before travelling.

Current travel considerations

Security conditions vary by region. Current travel advice recommends avoiding non-essential travel within 20 km of Tanzania’s border with Cabo Delgado Province in Mozambique because of the risk of attacks linked to extremist groups.

If a project is located in Mtwara Region, near an international border or in another remote area, confirm its exact location and consult current travel advice for Tanzania before departure.

If your project is in Zanzibar, also check the current entry and insurance requirements that apply specifically to visitors to the islands.
