Open the opportunity that interests you and read the complete announcement. Look for the contact details at the end of the listing to find the organisation’s website, email address or application procedure.

Before applying, confirm the activities, weekly hours, days off, supervision, accommodation, meals, local transport, project dates and any fees, deposits or other financial arrangements directly with the host.

Some opportunities may be fair exchanges with no mandatory participant fee, while others may request a contribution or programme fee. If payment is required, ask for the exact amount, what it covers and the applicable payment, cancellation and refund conditions before making a commitment.

Projects involving children, healthcare or vulnerable people should have appropriate safeguarding procedures, supervision and clear role boundaries. Make sure the proposed activities match your experience and qualifications.

Voluntouring does not organise placements, select volunteers, arrange visas or mediate between volunteers and hosts. It does not process participant payments between volunteers and host organisations. Publication on Voluntouring.org does not in itself constitute verification, endorsement or a recommendation of an organisation or programme. Older announcements may remain online for archival and informational purposes.

Visas and volunteering in Uganda

Entry and immigration requirements depend on your nationality, length of stay and planned activities. Visitor status should not automatically be assumed to permit every form of structured volunteering, teaching, employment or work exchange.

Uganda’s immigration system includes a Class G1 Entry Permit for missionaries and volunteers working with NGOs. The application can require documentation from the organisation, including an appointment letter and evidence relating to its NGO status.

Ask the host which immigration arrangement applies to your activities and verify it independently through the Uganda Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control before travelling.

Current travel considerations

Security conditions require additional attention in parts of western Uganda close to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Armed groups, including the Allied Democratic Forces, have operated near the border, and border crossings can close at short notice.

If a project is located in Kasese, Bundibugyo, Kisoro or another area close to the DRC border, confirm its exact location and consult current travel advice for Uganda before departure.
