El Cerrito volunteer exchange in Puerto Jimenez
Allison shared this fantastic opportunity with our community via the Voluntouring.org Facebook group! If youโre looking to volunteer in Costa Rica and live close to nature while learning sustainable skills, this could be your next adventure.
Located in Puerto Jimenez, on the Osa Peninsula, this off-grid learning centre called El Cerrito welcomes 1โ2 volunteers at a time to join their small, integrated ecosystem. Volunteers participate in natural building, working with medicinal plants, planting, harvesting, and supporting the community through tasks like welcoming guests, cleaning, and social media content creation.
Meals are shared with local hosts and other guests, and the experience offers both skill-building and meaningful cultural exchange in one of the most biodiverse regions on Earth.

Original message:
Hello everyone, Iโm writing from El Cerrito in Puerto Jimenez, Costa Rica. We are an off-grid learning center, where our local hosts share skills such as natural building, working with medicinal plants, planting, harvesting and more. We welcome guests to share and learn with us, and often wind up with big family meals and many adventures.
We are looking for 1-2 volunteers to join the project, helping both with natural building projects and with general support: welcoming guests, photography for social media, cleaning guests cabins, and lending a hand wherever needed as part of our sweet integrated ecosystem. Weโre seeking volunteers who can stay for a minimum of one month, with the possibility to extend if itโs a good fit. We ask for at least an intermediate level of Spanish to be able to communicate well with our hosts, and are happy to receive people looking to improve their Spanish skills.
We are located on the Osa Peninsula, one of the worldโs most biodiverse regions, where monkeys and toucans pass by daily, and you are truly immersed in a healthy and vibrant natural habitat. Our hosts are inspirational people who have spent their whole lives living very in tune with nature, and love to both share their wisdom and learn from visitors.
You can read more about the project here: [www.elcerritocr.com] and on Instagram @elcerritoCR. Please introduce yourself by email (elcerritoCR@gmail DOT com) if youโre interested, where Iโll be happy to answer any questions, and we can set up a video call to meet. Weโre looking forward to sharing our next adventure with you!

Ethical volunteering reminder
Voluntouring.org promotes opportunities rooted in cultural exchange and mutual learning. Before applying, ask yourself: Is this a fair exchange, or could it replace paid labour? Choose consciously, ask questions, and make sure the experience is respectful, safe, and aligned with your values. Always check visa requirements โ hosts cannot provide legal work permits.
