ESC – European Solidarity Corps projects
EU just approved the new ESC – European Solidarity Corps programme for 2021-2027 โ this initiative originally started in 2016. With its budget which will amount to โฌ1.26 billion, the ESC programme will enable around 350,000 young people aged 18-30 to participate in a wide range of activities providing support to communities in need, including:
- volunteering activities & projects
- internships
- possible work placements
In addition, the new programme will also include the “European Volunteers for Humanitarian Aid” initiative.
The action fields of the European Solidarity Corps for 2021-2027
- Solidarity placements: will allow participants to carry out voluntary activities for up to 12 months, traineeships generally of 2-6 months and work activities of 2-12 months.
- Volunteer groups: groups of 10-40 participants from different countries will receive training. They will also volunteer together for a length of 2 weeks to 2 months.
- Solidarity projects: small groups of young people composed of at least 5 participants. They will be able to carry out solidarity projects at a local level, for a length of 2-12 months.
- Networking activities: they have the purpose of attracting new participants to the programme. This will enable
- the exchange of good practice,
- post-placement support
- establish networks of former participants.
Through these actions, the ESC offers young people from all over Europe numerous opportunities to
- engage in solidarity activities
- tackle social challenges
- strengthen communities.
More Inclusive
Moreover, the new European Solidarity Corps 2021-2027 is an inclusive initiative. This is thanks to the provision of targeted measures to encourage the participation of young people, including those from disadvantaged groups.
ESC volunteers: Benefits
Volunteers will receive pocket money for their living expenses. It covers food, accommodation and small expenses up to 155โฌ), as well as travel costs and insurance coverage. Disadvantaged young people will receive a supplement pocket money to cover any additional necessary expenses.
The objectives of the European Solidarity Corps 2021-2027
The overall objective of the European Solidarity Corps 2021-2027 is to provide young people with the opportunity to take part in a range of solidarity-based activities. They will help in addressing difficult situations in all EU member states and the rest of the world.
The initiative should also be able to foster young people’s personal development. They will get actively involved in society and employability, through the assistance of NGOs, public institutions and enterprises that are engaged in social challenges.
