European Solidarity Corps 🇪🇺

European Solidarity Corps volunteering opportunities and community activities

Explore European Solidarity Corps volunteering opportunities published on Voluntouring.org, including individual volunteering, volunteering teams and other solidarity projects supported by the European Union.

ESC opportunities normally have specific activity dates, application deadlines and eligibility requirements. Some announcements in this archive may already be closed, so always check the publication date and verify the current project details before applying.

What is the European Solidarity Corps?

The European Solidarity Corps (ESC) is an EU programme supporting young people who take part in solidarity activities in their own country or abroad. The programme includes volunteering activities, Solidarity Projects and Humanitarian Aid Volunteering.

This Voluntouring tag focuses mainly on ESC volunteering opportunities. You can learn more through the official European Solidarity Corps portal.

Who can participate?

You can register with the European Solidarity Corps from the age of 17, but you must be at least 18 when an activity starts. Standard ESC volunteering activities are generally open to people aged 18 to 30.

Humanitarian Aid Volunteering has a higher upper age limit of 35 and follows additional eligibility and training requirements.

Eligibility also depends on your country of legal residence and the countries accepted by the individual opportunity. Being registered with the Corps does not guarantee selection for a project.

Check the current eligibility rules through the official ESC participation information.

Duration and working time

Individual ESC volunteering can generally last from 2 weeks to 12 months. Volunteering teams normally last from 2 weeks to 2 months.

ESC volunteering is a full-time activity, normally involving around 30 to 38 hours per week. The individual opportunity should explain the schedule, activities and support arrangements before you accept a place.

What costs are covered?

ESC volunteering is funded according to European Solidarity Corps rules. Basic support normally includes:

  • travel to and from the project according to programme rules;
  • accommodation;
  • food or a food allowance;
  • insurance;
  • training and support services;
  • linguistic support where applicable;
  • pocket money for personal expenses.

Additional support may also be available for specific needs, including some visa-related or accessibility costs.

Participants cannot be required to pay a participation fee for an ESC activity. Pocket money is a personal allowance and should not be confused with a salary or paid employment.

For current programme conditions, see the official ESC volunteering information and the European Solidarity Corps principles.

How to use this page

Open the opportunity that interests you and check the publication date, activity dates, application deadline and countries from which participants are accepted.

Read the complete announcement and look for the contact details at the end of the listing to find the organisation’s website, email address or application procedure.

Whenever possible, verify the opportunity through the official European Solidarity Corps portal and confirm the current accommodation, food, pocket money, travel reimbursement, insurance and activity schedule directly with the responsible organisation.

Voluntouring does not organise ESC placements, select participants, distribute European funding or mediate between applicants and organisations. Publication on Voluntouring.org does not in itself constitute endorsement or guarantee selection for a project.

ESC and the former European Voluntary Service

European Voluntary Service (EVS) is a historical programme name. EVS was discontinued as a brand and removed from Erasmus+ at the end of 2018, with the European Solidarity Corps becoming the main EU programme for this type of youth volunteering.

ESC therefore builds on the experience of EVS but should not be presented simply as the current name of an active EVS programme.

Erasmus+ is also a separate EU programme, although organisations and activities connected with youth mobility may sometimes be involved in both programmes. You can browse Erasmus+ opportunities on Voluntouring.

For additional general guidance, read Voluntouring’s information about safety and legality in volunteering and work exchanges.

Important: application deadlines, eligible countries, pocket money amounts, travel reimbursement and other funding conditions vary between projects and can change. Confirm the current conditions directly with the responsible organisation and the official European Solidarity Corps sources before applying.
