What is the European Solidarity Corps?

The European Solidarity Corps is the new European Union initiative that creates opportunities for young people to volunteer or work in projects in their own country or abroad that benefit communities and people around Europe.

The young people who participate in the ESC will all agree with and uphold its Mission and Principles.

You can register for the ESC when you are 17 years old, but you cannot start a project until you are over 18. European Solidarity Corps projects will be available to people up to the age of 30 years old.

After completing a simple registration process, ESC participants could be selected and invited to join a wide range of projects, such as helping to prevent natural disasters or rebuild afterward, assisting in centres for asylum seekers, or addressing different social issues in communities.

Projects supported by the ESC can last from two to twelve months. They will usually be located within the European Union Member States.

ESC in Details – more information

ESC (European Solidarity Corps, former European Voluntary Service [EVS]) is an international volunteer experience funded by the European Commission.

It allows young people (18 to 30 years old) resident in Europe and neighbour countries to have a full-time international and intercultural volunteer experience in an organisation for a period of time between 2 and
14 months. It provides the travel expenses, full board (food and accommodation) and an amount of pocket money per month (it varies depending on the country).

It is based on non-formal education so this is a unique opportunity to meet people from other cultures and nationalities while acquiring new skills and abilities for personal and professional growth.

Therefore it aims to:

increase skills through the practical
experience of volunteering abroad;
encourage the learning of another language;
interact with persons from different nationalities and cultures;
develop solidarity, mutual understanding and tolerance among Europe;
promote active citizenship;
support the development of local communities.

European Solidarity Corps is NOT:

Occasional or part-time volunteering;
an internship in an enterprise or a humanitarian organisation;
a recreational or tourist activity;
a language course abroad;
a paid job.
