Looking to volunteer in Bukit Lawang and build a real portfolio in eco-tourism media? A family-run jungle trekking company and eco-guesthouse in North Sumatra posted on our FB group, inviting one early-career storyteller to join them from January 2026. The exchange blends light social-media work with playful time alongside two young children, so you can live beside the rainforest while learning and contributing each day.
Volunteer in Bukit Lawang: what youâll do
Expect about 4â5 hours a day, five days a week (â20â25 hrs/week). Youâll capture daily stories and one weekly reel, join treks to film authentic jungle life, and help shape a warm brand voice for ethical travellers. For two hours most days, youâll read, sing and play with the familyâs boys (ages 1 and 3), ideally in your native language – Dutch, Arabic or Mandarin preferred – to spark gentle language learning.
What you get
Accommodation on site in the eco-guesthouse, visa costs covered, meals during working hours, and a monthly stipend (based on experience). Youâll also gain mentoring and a publishable portfolio, plus time off to enjoy rivers, rainforest trails and village life.
Who it suits
Recent graduates or early-career creators who are kind, reliable and fit enough for tropical trails. You love kids, care about wildlife and culture, and can work independently with a respectful, low-impact attitude. Prior account management is a bonus; curiosity and consistency matter most.
