Volunteering at Camphill Village

We are an integrated community where people with developmental disabilities are living a life of dignity, equality, and purpose. Volunteers are the lifeblood of Camphill Village. Every year, we welcome dozens of volunteers aged 19 and over from around the world to stay for a year โ€“ often longer โ€“ and become a member of our rich and vibrant community life. They live in a home with other volunteers and adults with developmental differences, help manage their households, assist each other in one of our many workplaces, and help care for each otherโ€™s emotional, physical, and spiritual needs.

General info

Volunteering at Camphill is a transformative experience, where you will not only live and work alongside some great people but learn practical skills that you can take with you after you leave. Free room and board with your own bedroom, and delicious wholesome meals. Volunteers can work in our bakery, coffee shop, biodynamic vegetable and flower gardens, on our livestock farm, or in our craft studios (beeswax candle shop, woodshop, bookbindery, or weaver).

Volunteer expectations

It is difficult to identify hours of work per week, as it doesn’t really work like that here. Because you are living in a household with individuals with disabilities, there are household tasks that need to be done in addition to regular workday hours. There is a day off each week where you are free to explore the area, go hiking, shopping, or visit museums with friends or alone.

Are accommodation and food included?

Yes, food and accommodation are included

What type of accommodation can you provide?
  • Private Room
Diet

We enjoy a well-rounded diet in the Village. Many of the foods we enjoy here are grown on our own property (vegetables and meat). Lunch is a very important meal that you enjoy in the household in the middle of the workday. Dinner is lighter fare (usually with breads from our bakery and soups and spreads). There is hardly any junk food here.

Fees

No fees.

Volunteers’ benefits

Medical insurance, room & board, three weeks vacation time for a one-year commitment, and other financial needs met on an as-needed basis

What to do in your free time

We are lucky to be in a rural area that is right on the border of the Hudson Valley region and Berkshire region. Lots of hiking, swimming, and parks; restaurants, shows, and museums. We are just over two hours from New York City.

English

Geography

We are in a fertile agricultural valley nestled in between two beautiful mountain chains.
