Update! 20th 05 19
Do you have a few weeks spare? Would you like to stay on a tropical island and help to run our coffee stall here in Malaysia? Join our Marine conservation program!
COFFEE FOR CONSERVATION
We are looking for a barista to join Island Watch Conservation Initiative from now until 10th June, in the Perhentians.ย Our organisation is involved with monitoring nesting sea turtles, protecting nests, coral reef management, education and outreach.
This is a great opportunity for someone travelling, with barista skills, looking to learn about marine conservation and get involved.
The Role
We are looking for someone who will help to run our small start up coffee stall, you will be required to prepare and serve coffee to tourists, from our handmade wooden stall, stationed at a beachfront location. The stall will also sell Island Watch merchandise and help raise funds for the marine conservation project.
Food & Accommodation
As this is a start-up venture for a conservation organisation, it is an unpaid position, with accommodation and food provided. You will be living in an open air camp, along conservation volunteers, and are able to learn about the work they do.
Food will be supplied for camp and meals will be served on camp, near to the coffee stall, and all volunteers will cook on a rota basis. To get in touch read the contact details section at the end of the announcement.
Previous announcement from the same organization 1oth of April 2019
We have some places for volunteers on our new and exploratory marine conservation project on the east coast of Malaysia.
Our main focus is continuing the protection of the nesting turtle population, mitigating stressors to the marine ecosystem and working with the local tourist industry to carry out best practice.
Food and accommodation
UNPAID – Food and accommodation will be covered for volunteers.
We are looking for volunteers to help our turtle patrols this season between 20th April- end of May.
Activities & roles
Your role will be contributing to our turtle monitoring with night patrols on a rota basis – which are carried out on a small uninhabited island.
You will stay in hut accommodation here for 2-3 days and then spend 2-3 days on the island of Pulau Perhentian.
Requirements
No experience necessary but a willingness to help and learn. Suit undergraduates/recent graduates looking to gain experience in turtle monitoring and marine surveys.

Hi there, I see that you have volunteer positions in Malasia. I thought that Malasia isn’t allowed to legally to have non-Malasian volunteers. Can you clarify this please? Many thanks, Amanda
I never heard of such a restriction. You can ask for more info to the hosts by writing them a message. Use the contact info you find in the ‘contact details’ section
