Activities vary between projects and may include learning to sail, taking watches, handling ropes and sails, navigation support, cooking, cleaning, maintenance or other shared responsibilities on board. Previous sailing experience is not always required, but each host sets its own conditions.

This tag is for opportunities where sailing, learning to sail or taking part in the operation of a sailing vessel is a meaningful part of the volunteer or exchange experience. Being near the sea, travelling by boat or working on a marine project does not by itself make an opportunity a sailing project.
Sailing projects and life aboard
Conditions aboard a sailing vessel can be very different from a land-based work exchange. Sleeping space may be limited, schedules can depend on weather and navigation, and crew members may share watches, meals and everyday boat duties. Some opportunities are cooperative or shared-cost arrangements rather than conventional volunteer exchanges, so check carefully what contribution, if any, is required and what it covers.
