What is marine conservation? 🐙🌊
Marine conservation involves protecting, managing and restoring ocean and coastal species, habitats and ecosystems. It can include scientific monitoring, habitat restoration, pollution reduction, wildlife protection, environmental education and work to understand or reduce human pressures on marine environments.
Research, wildlife and diving
Depending on the project, volunteers may assist with reef or species surveys, coral restoration, marine litter monitoring, beach cleanups, photo identification, environmental education or other field activities. Not every opportunity involves direct wildlife contact or scuba diving.
Activities involving protected wildlife, scientific sampling, scuba diving, boats or open-water work may require permits, certifications, specialist training and professional supervision. Confirm the required experience, safety procedures and insurance coverage before taking part, and do not undertake veterinary or specialist research tasks beyond your training.
