We are a community healthcare project in Guatemala focused on improving access to basic medical services in underserved areas. The Lead Medical Provider plays a key role in coordinating clinical activities, guiding volunteers, and ensuring safe and effective delivery of care, while always working alongside our local medical staff. Volunteers assist with patient intake, basic clinical support, and health education activities under supervision. Accommodation and meals are provided during the placement to ensure a comfortable and supported stay. Respect for local protocols, patient confidentiality, and teamwork are essential rules throughout the experience.

Accommodation and meals are provided, and volunteers should be comfortable with basic living conditions and limited infrastructure.

Accommodation and meals are provided during the placement. Volunteers receive on-site orientation and ongoing support from local staff. Basic guidance is given for all clinical tasks, with clear supervision structures in place. There are opportunities for informal cultural exchange and interaction with the local community during free time, depending on daily schedules.

A stipend of $450 per month is also provided.

During free time, volunteers can explore the beautiful mountainous region where the clinic is located, with opportunities for hiking and walks in the surrounding nature. The area offers access to nearby natural attractions, including scenic viewpoints and landscapes typical of rural Guatemala. On weekends, volunteers can easily travel to Lake Atitlán, one of the most iconic destinations in Guatemala, or explore other parts of the country to discover volcanoes, colonial towns, and vibrant cultural hubs.

The clinic is located in the breathtaking highlands of Totonicapán in western Guatemala, nestled in the Sierra Madre mountains at high altitude. The region is known for its crisp mountain air, pine forests, rolling green hills, and deeply rooted indigenous culture, offering an authentic and immersive rural experience far from mass tourism. Life here moves at a slower, community-centered pace, surrounded by stunning natural landscapes and traditional villages.

How to get to your site ✈ 🗺

The clinic is located in the rural highlands of Totonicapán, Guatemala. Volunteers should fly into La Aurora International Airport (Guatemala City – GUA). From there, the usual route is by local shared buses to Momostenango, which takes several hours and offers an authentic local travel experience through the highlands.

From Momostenango, volunteers continue the journey by fletera (4×4 pickup truck), which we help arrange by providing trusted local contacts. We provide detailed step-by-step guidance in advance to ensure a safe and well-coordinated arrival.
