Hospitality exchange in Alaska โ€“ We are a three plus acre peony farm. We have been accepting volunteers for 8 years and host people from all over the world. We grow organic veggies for the dinner table. We always have building projects going on. English, French, Spanish, Bambara is spoken our the farm. All volunteers join us at the dinner table every night for a healthy meal. I am a retired chef. Cooking lessons are freely given. We dabble in hydroponics, water collection, weaving, knitting, making perfumes and soaps and anything else that sounds fun.

An ongoing open exchange of ideas to help make life more sustainable.

We value and encourage personal responsibility. Our farm is in a beautiful location surrounded by Alaskan nature. You can see the ocean and the river is just a couple miles down the hill. We don’t fence and we are organic. Duties include Watering, weeding, feeding, harvesting, and packaging for shipment. Building projects, currently a Himalayan greenhouse is the main project. We are adding irrigation sustained by solar pumps.

We start in the field around 8 am.

Duties vary as the flowers come in. Weed, water, and feed is a regular chores. As the plants get bigger we do sidebudding, culling, deadheading and then harvesting. All the flowers are sorted and stored in the cooler for sale in the lower 48 states.

Lunch at noonish. We all eat at the house together. I make a high-protein vegetarian soup every day. Lots of P&J on homemade bread. Yes, you will learn to make bread. After lunch is gardening, hydroponic and building projects.

Rainy days weaving, knitting, languages, perfumes, soaps and ??? You never know.

I am a retired chef adamant about cooking from scratch. We use as much as we can from the gardens and the woods. Vegetarian is available. Any other dietary restrictions are welcome but must fend for them selves on special needs. I am lacose intolerant so dairy is minimal. I make at milk. I make oatmeal every morning, pastries as time allows, fresh homemade bread always available. Fruit as available in Alaska. NO to go food.

Zero zilch Nadda!!! to be on the farm have a bed to sleep in and three homemade meals.

We have a vehicle we allow licensed drivers to use for town trips. We ask for 20 bucks per trip and replace the gas. This makes it possible to keep the car legal and running.

VISA SUPPORT – Are you able to assist with visa support, or provide invitation letters? ๐Ÿ›‚

No! we cannot help with Visa/invitation letters – similar requests will be ignored. โŒ

Volunteers’ benefits ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ…

We offer a certificate of completion for those staying at least two weeks.

Visits to other farms are available throughout the summer. Including animals, and artists. Language exchanges and cultural experiences from us, our neighbours and other volunteers. We try to have a diverse group at any given time.

Hiking, kayaking, fishing, whale watching, glacier viewing and hiking. Bike ride if you dare. Many many indoor activities for rainy days

Dense forest of Sitka spruce and hemlock. Alder, willows line the creeks. Tons o wildflowers including roses, fireweed, chocolate lillys, lupine and a lot more. We are about 900 ft close to the Anchor river and 15 minutes from the ocean. Hilly!!

How to get to your site โœˆ ๐Ÿ—บ

Fly to Anchorage, then you can fly to Homer on a small plane or take a beautiful 5 hour bus ride. We pick you up in Homer.
