Today, we’re helping Serenity Lanka spread the word about a short intake in Kandy, Sri Lanka. The post in our Facebook group reads:
““WE NEED VOLUNTEERS! Welcome to Serenity Lanka! We are a volunteer-based organisation dedicated to making a difference through: Child Care Projects, Education & Teaching Programs, Women Empowerment Initiatives… Accommodation, meals & transport provided!.”
About the project
Serenity Lanka is a small, volunteer-led organisation in the Kandy area. Their work focuses on three community strands: support in childcare settings, classroom assistance and after-school tuition, and activities that strengthen women’s skills and confidence. According to their website, they also develop inclusive volunteering with neurodiverse children and special-needs centres (an angle not many local groups lead on).
What volunteers do
Day to day, roles are simple and people-focused.
In childcare, volunteers help staff with routines, play, and basic learning support. In education, they sit in on lessons, help small groups practise English or homework, and prepare simple materials with teachers. Women’s initiatives vary – from spoken-English practice to basic digital or craft sessions – always shaped by the partner centre’s needs rather than a one-size-fits-all plan.
If you have specific skills (teaching, SEN support, counselling, arts), mention them; placements are tailored when possible.
What’s included and practicalities
For this September 2025 intake, Serenity Lanka says accommodation, meals, and in-country transport connected to the placement are provided.
The placements are limited in number, so early contact helps. English is the working language with volunteers; no formal age limit is stated in the call, but applicants should be mature, adaptable, and comfortable in community settings. If you need more details on schedules, length of stay, or what to pack, ask directly when you apply.
Where you’ll be 📍
Kandy is Sri Lanka’s cultural capital in the hill country, with busy markets, lake walks, and easy access to rural villages just outside the city.
Buses and trains link Kandy with Colombo and the south and east coasts for weekend trips.
