Christmas is celebrated in many countries, in many different ways, but one thing is almost always present: a warm greeting.
Around the world people say โMerry Christmasโ with their own words. In English you hear โMerry Christmasโ or โHappy Christmasโ. In Spanish people say โFeliz Navidadโ, in French โJoyeux Noรซlโ, in Portuguese โFeliz Natalโ, in German โFrohe Weihnachtenโ, in Italian โBuon Nataleโ. In Ireland you might hear โNollaig Shona Dhuitโ, in Greece โEftihismena Christougennaโ, in Japan โMerii Kurisumasuโ. Arabic speakers may say โMilad Mubarakโ, and in many African and Asian countries local languages have their own beautiful versions. Learning a few of these greetings is a simple way to show respect and curiosity when you travel, volunteer abroad or meet international friends. A small phrase, spoken with a smile, can make people feel seen, welcome and part of a shared celebration.
