How to use this archive
Open the opportunity that interests you and read the complete announcement. Check the publication date and look for the contact details at the end of the listing to find the organisation’s website, email address or application procedure.
Before applying, confirm the activities, weekly hours, days off, supervision, accommodation, meals, local transport, minimum stay and any fees, deposits or other financial arrangements directly with the host.
Voluntouring does not organise placements, select volunteers, arrange visas or mediate between volunteers and hosts. Publication on Voluntouring.org does not in itself constitute verification, endorsement or a recommendation of an organisation or programme.
Accommodation, meals and participant fees
Some opportunities may be fair exchanges with no mandatory participant fee and may include accommodation or meals. Others may request a contribution or programme fee towards food, accommodation, transport, training, activities or other project costs.
A participant fee does not automatically make a project more or less responsible, effective or appropriate. If payment is required, ask for the exact amount, what it covers and the applicable payment, cancellation and refund conditions before making a commitment.
Voluntouring does not process participant payments between volunteers and hosts. Any financial arrangements described in a listing should be confirmed directly with the organisation concerned.
Choosing a project responsibly
Make sure the proposed activities match your experience and qualifications. Healthcare, counselling, social work, teaching and other professional roles may require specific credentials, local authorisation and appropriate supervision.
Projects involving children or vulnerable people should have clear safeguarding procedures, volunteer screening, supervision and appropriate role boundaries. For additional information, read Voluntouring’s guide to safer alternatives to volunteering with children.
Visas, health and local conditions
Visa, immigration, health and insurance requirements vary considerably between East African countries and depend on your nationality and planned activities. Security and public health conditions can also differ between regions and change quickly.
Before travelling, check official immigration information and current travel and health guidance for the specific destination. Do not assume that tourist or visa-free entry automatically permits every form of volunteering, teaching or work exchange.
For general guidance, read Voluntouring’s information about visas for volunteering abroad and safety and legality in volunteering and work exchanges.
Important: project availability, participant fees, accommodation arrangements, immigration requirements and local conditions can change. Confirm current information directly with the host and relevant official authorities before making travel or financial commitments.
