Volunteer in a Guesthouse abroad in exchange for hospitality
Guesthouses are a phenomenon that has been growing steadily for several years, and it’s becoming more popular. All over the world, owners of all kinds of facilities are renting their house rooms to tourists, and guest houses are a part of this trend.
This type of property, so authentic and genuine, is a form of accommodation unlike any other, where the “local” component plays a decisive role and differentiates guest houses from any other tourist property.

What is a Guest House and how does it work?
A “guesthouse” is nothing more than a “house”, very similar to a Bed and breakfast, in which the owner makes one or more private dwellings available to his “guests”.
In this type of establishment, unlike a hotel, holiday home, the owner generally lives in the property and offers his guests accommodation. Although the guests may enjoy the comfort of a private room, they usually share common areas such as the kitchen or living room.
Guesthouses owners often converted simple rooms into tourist accommodation and offer hospitality to travellers looking for comfortable, simple and generally affordable accommodation.
Other differences
Guesthouses have a limited number of rooms (which can be as few as one), which can be private or shared. They provide guests with basic facilities such as a bathroom and kitchen. There is no obligation to offer breakfast or main meals.
Each guest house is different and may offer additional services to its guests, which vary according to the price range. There is a guest house to suit every taste: for those who want to save money and are happy with basic services, to those who are looking for more services and comforts such as an in-house restaurant, relaxation corner or garden.
Why is this becoming so trendy and popular?
All fashions and trends have their reasons, and the guest house phenomenon is no different. The ever-increasing demand for this type of accommodation is certainly due to its “local” and authentic character.
More and more travellers prefer to avoid hotels in search of something more ‘authentic’ and closer to the local culture of the country they are visiting. The experiential element plays a dominant role here.
Guesthouses are often located in strategic points in the city, near the sea and the beach, or in the centre, and allow you to live in contact with the culture and nature of the place.

Noteโ
For several reasons, you may not always receive an answer from the hosts.ย Sometimes candidate messages are too many, so the hosts wonโt always be able to reply to all of the emails. For more information, please read our FAQ.
