Lofoten Islands hospitality exchange – If you’ve ever dreamed of spending some time in the far north, a small guesthouse on Skrova, one of the Lofoten Islands in Norway, has published a new last-minute call for volunteers.
We originally discovered this opportunity in our Volunteer & Hospitality Exchange Facebook group, where the host shared another updated announcement in August 2026.
Current opportunity
The hosts run a small guesthouse and café/restaurant on Skrova. According to their current announcement, volunteers help throughout the year with everyday activities such as housekeeping, cleaning, simple DIY, helping in the café, making waffles, and other small jobs.
The main additional project announced for late summer 2026 is the renovation of a historic building that the host describes as around 200 years old. The first phase involves dismantling parts of the interior, including removing doors, walls, bathrooms, and other old structures.
How long should volunteers stay?
The current call is for volunteers from now until the end of September 2026. The host gives preference to travellers who can stay for at least 4 weeks, although exceptions may be considered.
What will volunteers do?
- housekeeping and cleaning
- helping with everyday guesthouse activities
- helping in the café and making waffles
- simple DIY
- helping with the first stages of the renovation project

The host says professional renovation experience is not required, but volunteers should be practical, willing to work, and comfortable with basic tools.
Exchange and accommodation
According to the August 2026 announcement, volunteers currently contribute around 5 hours a day, 5 days a week.
In exchange, the hosts provide food and accommodation, together with flexible schedules.

Renovation project
Safety reminder for renovation work: The current announcement includes dismantling and removing parts of an old building. Before taking part, ask the hosts exactly which renovation tasks volunteers are expected to perform, what supervision and protective equipment are provided, and whether the building and materials involved have been assessed for potential hazards.
Older buildings can contain hazards that are not immediately visible, including materials containing asbestos from later construction or renovation work. Ask whether structural, electrical, plumbing, asbestos-related or other specialist work is being handled by appropriately qualified professionals. Do not undertake a task if you are unsure that it is safe or appropriate for your experience. You can also consult information from the Norwegian Labour Inspection Authority.
Visa and work requirements: The host states that they do not arrange visas. Entry into Norway does not automatically mean that every type of work or exchange activity is permitted, and the label “volunteering” does not by itself determine a traveller’s immigration or work status. Rules depend on nationality, residence status and the activities involved. Check the requirements that apply to you directly with the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) before travelling.

When?

Who are we?
We run a small guesthouse and café/restaurant in an island called Skrova – a beautiful and peaceful part of the world.
We have volunteers throughout the year who help with everyday tasks such as housekeeping, cleaning, simple DIY, helping in the café, making waffles, and other small jobs.
Right now, however, we are starting a special project: renovating a beautiful 200-year-old historical building.
The first part of the renovation will involve taking things apart: removing doors, walls, bathrooms, and other old structures.
You don’t need professional experience. We’re simply looking for people who are practical, willing to work, and comfortable using a hammer. 😉
What we offer
In exchange for 5 hours a day, 5 days a week, we provide:
