Patagonian sailing with Otra Vida
Otra Vida will be sailing north from Puerto Natales at the start of February, with Puerto Montt as the destination by the end of April, along the Patagonian channels in southern Chile.
There will be four people on board in total. In addition, the skipperâs girlfriend plans to join at the start of April for one or two weeks.
Weather permitting, the plan is to explore Estero las MontaÃąas again, and Estero Peel / Seno Calvo. These are remote fjords that are rarely visited, with spectacular glaciers in largely untouched wilderness.
Important: this sailing opportunity has been shared several times over the years and dates or conditions may have changed. Please contact the skipper directly to check current plans, availability and costs before making any travel arrangements.
A sailing community
On board the atmosphere is a kind of small community. The idea is that everyone co creates the atmosphere and the experience, living and sailing together for a few months.
If you have spent time in intentional communities, Rainbow Gatherings, social development projects and similar spaces, you will probably enjoy the boat. If you are not community oriented, or if you prefer a boat with a strict hierarchy and many fixed rules, Otra Vida is probably not the right boat for you.
Costs and food
Actual costs for food and fuel are shared equally between everyone on board. Food on board is vegetarian.
This is a shared cost sailing trip, not a paid volunteer position. There is no salary, and each person contributes to the running costs of the journey.
Requirements
Age and gender are not important, and sailing ability is not required, although it is welcome if you have it.
What matters most is that you are intelligent, have some experience of challenging travel (for example wilderness trips, long distance backpacking or mountaineering), and enjoy good conversation in English and or Spanish.
