Here at the Taylor McCabe Institute, we are building a shelter and a school for Ukrainian refugees.

We have a beautiful space in the picturesque village of Nemcinany and are offering not just food and accommodation but also a great chance to get involved with a fun community of volunteers coming from all over the globe. We are looking for enthusiastic, hardworking people with skill sets from all backgrounds. Whether you have construction knowledge, are a general hands-on helper, or an admin whiz, we will be grateful to have you on board!

As part of our team, not only will you be helping the people of Ukraine and learning new skills, but you will also have the opportunity to experience life in Slovakia. We ensure every volunteer gets time to experience the local community and sights.

In the village of Nemcinany, you will have the opportunity to experience Slovakian rural life by mingling, interacting, and working with the locals, as well as volunteers from all over the world. When we are not working on the project, we enjoy hosting field trips around the area so our volunteers can experience some of what the area has to offer.

At the Taylor McCabe Institute, we are building a shelter for Ukrainian refugees and their families.

Volunteer Age Restrictions

Unfortunately, we cannot host minors. Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.

Volunteers with Disabilities

Volunteers with disabilities are welcome. However, because of the nature of the site, it could be a very challenging environment for most physical disabilities and is not set up to be accessible at this stage. Volunteers are welcome to speak with us further regarding their personal situation, and together we can work out whether this would be a viable option for their volunteering goals.

We can host up to 10 volunteers.

Volunteer Period

We usually need volunteers between the months of May and September.

Help Required

Volunteers are expected to help for 4-5 hours per day, 5 days per week, with 2 days off.

Yes, we offer food and accommodation.

Accommodation Types

Your accommodation on-site will include a private or shared room with bedding and towels provided. The building has WiFi, showers, a washing machine, a fully equipped kitchen, and a parking space.

Diet and Nutrition Information

We provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner and cater to most dietary requirements.

We encourage a communal style of living, and all volunteers will be responsible for helping cook and clean. We all love food, and mealtimes are a lot of fun and a good opportunity to meet and interact with people from all cultures and backgrounds.

Fee Transparency

There are no fees involved with this project. You will just need to organize your transport to and from the location and any spending on your personal items while you’re here.

Visa Support

No, we cannot help with visa/invitation letters. Similar requests will be ignored.

Volunteers’ Benefits

Aside from food and accommodation, we also organize field trips and cultural activities so our volunteers can truly experience what the area has to offer. You will be working alongside volunteers with varied backgrounds and skill sets, and will definitely learn new skills as well as make new friends!

Geography

The small village of Nemcinany is nestled between rolling hills and fields full of crops and flowers. It is truly beautiful and perfect for those keen on a dose of nature! The village offers a small shop and pub, but we also take regular trips to larger villages or the closest city for supplies and can take volunteers to run their errands too.

How to Get to Our Site

Our closest city is Nitra, which you can get to easily by bus or train. We can pick you up from there or from Bratislava if that is easier.
