Set between Sevlievo and Gabrovo in the foothills of the Stara Planina, Horse Rescue Bulgaria welcomes volunteers who want to spend time with animals, help on practical outdoor projects, and enjoy mountain views. The hosts are a retired English couple who moved from the UK and now look after a small herd in a peaceful hamlet called Sarbolatsite, close to Stolat. Their nine acres include paddocks, woodland, and organic orchards with cherries, plums, apples, pears, quince, and mulberries. Life here is simple, friendly, and very handsâon.
The help needed is varied through spring, summer, and autumn, continuing into the quieter months. You might assist with putting up new fencing for paddocks and a schooling area, build or maintain retaining walls and paths, and keep the walled garden neat by weeding, trimming hedges, and general upkeep. There is seasonal fruit picking with jam and preserve making, and occasional painting and varnishing. People with experience in plasterboard, drywall, or plastering are especially appreciated. Confident riders are welcome and can help with schooling and daily care; animal lovers in general will fit right in alongside three horses, three dogs, and three cats.
The exchange follows a clear rhythm: about five hours a day, five days a week, leaving ample free time to wander the woods, sketch, take photos, or explore nearby towns. In return you receive full board with three meals a day, hot or cold soft drinks, and comfortable accommodation. Options include a private room in the home with shared bathroom, a small caravan, or space for a campervan or tent. Laundry is included, the internet is reliable, and vegetarian meals can be provided on request.
This listing indicates full board and accommodation are included. The project is in a rural setting about 30 minutes from Sevlievo and 45 minutes from Gabrovo. Visa support is not provided.
