WHO graphic explaining that thermal scanners detect fever but may miss infected people without symptoms

Thermal scanners and coronavirus: what they can detect

This image is a WHO “myth buster” style graphic about thermal scanners. The key idea is simple: thermal scanners can help identify people with a fever, but they cannot reliably identify everyone who is infected, especially if symptoms have not started yet.

For up to date public health guidance, use official sources such as the
World Health Organization (WHO)
and the
European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).

Travel planning note: Screening measures at airports and borders can reduce some risks, but they do not eliminate them. Before travelling, check your government’s travel advice and any current entry or transit rules that apply to your route.
For documentation checks that airlines often rely on, see the
IATA Travel Centre (Timatic).
