Covid-19 articles
This page is an archive of COVID-19 articles for volunteers and travellers published mainly during the pandemic emergency. It includes information, volunteering initiatives, online projects, travel resources and community responses that were relevant during periods of lockdowns, border restrictions and other exceptional measures.
Many of these articles are now historical and should not be used as current health, travel or legal guidance. Conditions, public-health recommendations and travel requirements have changed substantially since they were first published.
What is COVID-19? 🦠
COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The global outbreak began in 2019 and led to an international public-health emergency from January 2020 until May 2023. SARS-CoV-2 continues to circulate, so current health information should be checked through official public-health sources rather than relying on older articles in this archive.
Using this historical archive
The posts below document how volunteering, travel and community initiatives adapted during the COVID-19 emergency. Some projects were created specifically in response to lockdowns or temporary restrictions, while others later returned to normal activities or ceased operating.
Before acting on any older information, check the publication and update dates and verify current health guidance, border rules, travel requirements and project availability independently. For current international health information, see the World Health Organization COVID-19 information.
How to use this page
