Russian House #1 is a small intentional community and experimental restaurant in Jenner, California.
Since 2015 the restaurant has operated without a fixed menu or fixed prices and is run entirely by volunteers. The project explores โPostNew Economicsโ and Russian ideas of integrity, community and spirituality. Volunteers help in the restaurant, support events and take part in shared practices such as group discussions and self reflection exercises. In exchange they receive simple lodging and food, with no participation fee. Life and work are mixed, so daily tasks also become a kind of practice for personal growth. The atmosphere suits people who are curious about Russian culture, comfortable with communal living and interested in questioning usual ideas about money, work and meaning. New volunteers can usually come for a short three day trial to see if the lifestyle is a good fit before committing to a longer stay.
