Why host contacts are sometimes hidden
On some Voluntouring.org listings, you may not see the host’s direct email address or phone number. This is intentional and may be done to protect hosts and volunteers, reduce spam, or respect the host’s preferred application process.
Why we sometimes hide contact details
- At the host’s request. Some hosts prefer not to publish their personal email address, phone number, or other contact information openly. They may prefer to share these details only after receiving an introduction from an interested volunteer.
- To reduce spam and scraping. When an email address or phone number is published openly, it can be copied by spambots and reused for unwanted messages. This is especially common on popular destinations and seasonal listings.
- To protect privacy. Many hosts are private individuals, families, or small community projects. They may be happy to share personal details with potential volunteers without wanting those details to remain searchable on the open web.
- To keep communication manageable. Some opportunities receive a high number of messages, including enquiries that are unrelated to the project or show little awareness of what the host is offering. Limiting public contact details can help reduce this.
- For moderation and safeguarding purposes. In some cases, particularly where children, vulnerable people, private homes, or other sensitive circumstances are involved, we may apply additional caution before making direct contact information publicly visible.
Hiding contact details is not intended to make volunteering opportunities less accessible. It is simply one of the ways we try to balance openness with privacy, moderation, and the practical needs of hosts.
How to apply when contacts are hidden 🔍
Always begin by checking the Contact details section of the opportunity listing. The application procedure may vary from one host to another.
If the listing asks you to contact Voluntouring.org, email us at voluntouring.freelist AT gmail DOT com with a short introduction and a few lines about your motivation. Include your approximate dates, relevant skills or experience, and any important questions you have for the host.
Subject line: use the exact subject indicated in the listing. If no subject is provided, use the listing title.
What happens next: depending on the procedure indicated in the listing, we may help facilitate the initial communication, forward your message, or provide the appropriate contact information when possible.
If the listing instead provides an application form, official website, social media page, or another application method, please use that procedure directly.
A short, clear and sincere introduction usually works better than a generic message sent to many hosts.
Do I have to pay to get the host’s contact details?
No. Voluntouring.org does not charge volunteers a fee simply to obtain contact details that we have chosen to keep private.
If an opportunity itself involves participation fees, contributions, accommodation costs, donations, or other expenses, these are separate from the question of accessing contact information and should be explained in the individual listing whenever known.
Please note
Not every enquiry will necessarily receive a reply.
This may happen because the host has already found enough volunteers, receives more applications than they can answer, or is looking for particular dates, skills, languages, experience, or other requirements.
Voluntouring.org also cannot guarantee that a host will respond or accept an application. If one opportunity is no longer available, you are welcome to explore other projects on the site.
Volunteering, work and visas
Volunteer exchanges and volunteering opportunities should not automatically be treated as job offers, routes to employment, or ways to obtain a visa or residence permit.
If your main objective is paid employment abroad, you should use services and official resources specifically designed for international employment and immigration.
Visa and immigration rules vary considerably between countries and may also depend on your nationality, length of stay, activities and individual circumstances. Always check the relevant official government or consular information before travelling.
When you will see host contacts published directly
Many Voluntouring.org listings do include direct host contact details. This is generally possible when the host is comfortable making them public, when an established public application channel already exists, or when the project has its own official website, form, social media page, or organisational contact address.
For this reason, the application procedure may look slightly different from one listing to another.
For hosts
If you are a host and want your contact details shown publicly, removed, corrected, or updated, please contact Voluntouring.org and include the link to your listing.
You can also let us know if you prefer volunteers to use a particular application form, website, email address, social media page, or other official application procedure.
