Notice This archive includes older posts about volunteering with children. Voluntouring.org does not promote experiences that give short term visitors direct access to vulnerable minors, or any form of residential childcare volunteering. This page is under review and is being updated to reflect stronger safeguarding and ethical standards.
Content review notice We are reviewing older pages to reduce risk for children, communities, and participants. Some posts listed below may be outdated, incomplete, or written before our current approach. If you notice content that appears unsafe, misleading, or inconsistent with responsible volunteering, please report it with the page URL and a short explanation: https://voluntouring.org/report-a-listing-or-unsafe-content/
Start here Before opening older posts in this archive, read our updated educational guidance on high risk models and red flags: https://voluntouring.org/2019/05/07/orphanage-how-to-detect-when-its-a-scam/ Official guidance (UNICEF) on why orphanage volunteering is discouraged: https://www.unicef.org/rosa/what-we-do/child-protection/volunteering-orphanages
How to use this archive (safe approach) 1) Check the publication date. Many posts are old and may no longer be active. 2) Treat any listing involving residential childcare, orphanages, or unrestricted access to children as high risk. Do not proceed based on a public listing alone. 3) For any role that involves children (for example, schools or youth programs), look for clear safeguarding standards: defined role, supervision, training, screening, and strict rules on photos and online sharing. 4) If fees are mentioned, do not treat a fee as a quality signal. Ask for a clear breakdown and avoid paying for โaccess to childrenโ or anything that looks like a packaged experience.
