Finca la Castaña is an ecological farm located in the lush Orotava Valley in northern Tenerife. Established in 2013 by a German couple, the finca focuses on self-sufficiency and operates on ecological principles. Over the years, they have cultivated approximately 300 fruit trees, various vegetables, and numerous herbs, transforming the once-neglected land into a thriving ecosystem.
Volunteers are involved in diverse tasks, including planting, garden maintenance, harvesting, and construction projects. The typical commitment is about 25 hours per week, with weekends free to explore the island.
Accommodation for volunteers is provided in settings such as a comfortable yurt, a lodge tent, or a cozy hobbit house. Meals are shared with the hosts, who primarily follow a vegetarian diet, occasionally incorporating meat or fish. This arrangement fosters a communal atmosphere, allowing for cultural exchange and shared learning experiences.
n their leisure time, volunteers can enjoy the rich offerings of Tenerife. The finca’s proximity to La Orotava and Puerto de la Cruz provides access to local bars, restaurants, and beaches. Additionally, the nearby Teide National Park offers numerous hiking trails, making it an ideal spot for nature enthusiasts.
