Maria and Eusebio are inviting volunteers to join them in southern Italy, in the heart of Calabria, where they are lovingly restoring a family olive grove and building up a small, sustainable project in the peaceful Aspromonte mountains. The work includes everything from gardening and building to painting, fencing, and setting up camper-friendly spaces. Volunteers are encouraged to bring creativity and initiative, and in return, they get to experience the untouched beauty of rural Italyâhiking through mountain trails, exploring local villages, waterfalls, and enjoying seasonal festivals in the area.
Maria, originally from Australia, began her own journey as a volunteer and is now offering others the same immersive cultural experienceâconnecting with locals, enjoying traditional southern Italian food (mostly vegetarian), and learning from the land. Volunteers typically help out 4â5 hours a day for four days a week, with three days off to explore or relax. Accommodation and meals are provided on workdays, and a shared living space is available with an emphasis on cleanliness and respect.
The project is not commercialâeverything grown or made is for personal use, and the mission is to preserve tradition while building something sustainable and welcoming. Transport to the remote village of Santa Cristina dâAspromonte is available via bus from Reggio Calabria, but volunteers should be comfortable with rural living, limited transport options, and minimal internet (Wi-Fi only available at Mariaâs home). Sheâs looking for enthusiastic, independent individuals or couplesâespecially those with a camper or long-term interestâwho are ready to contribute meaningfully and embrace a slower, grounded lifestyle in nature.
