Backpacking conservation volunteers in Thórsmörk, Iceland (Trailteam.is)

Trailteam.is volunteers walking with backpacks in Thórsmörk, Iceland, heading to camp for hiking trail maintenance and conservation work.

Arriving in Thórsmörk means carrying your own gear into one of Iceland’s most dramatic valleys.

Trailteam.is volunteers hike in with backpacks, tools and supplies, then camp close to the work area. Days are spent restoring and protecting hiking routes by repairing worn paths, improving drainage, and keeping trails clear. The team works together, cooks and shares camp life, and learns how to travel safely in fast changing weather. There is no participation fee. Food and campsite facilities are provided, but you bring a sturdy tent and outdoor clothing. Apply online for current dates and check the official opportunities page first.
