The European Ecovillage Gathering 2025 brought hundreds of changemakers to Manas Garden, a permaculture and education hub near Lake Balaton, Hungary. Each afternoon opened with a sharing circle to weave connections and reflect on the movementโs relevance. Participants discussed how courses have lost appeal and called for better resource distribution across local, regional, and international layers. A standout idea was a Network Passport to recognize identities across GEN and make hospitality, volunteering, and resource sharing easier, ideally through a mobile app. Rethinking economics, Grace argued for trust-based exchanges instead of token or crypto systems, along with a shared volunteer database to welcome more youth. Workshops, meals, and an Indigenous-led session added energy and depth. Hosted on a site reclaimed from a former holiday village with a hotel and campsite, the Gathering turned Manas Garden into an open-air lab.
