The Organisation for Community Development Uganda (OCDU) is a community-based organisation located in Budaka District, Uganda. It started operating in 2017 and was re-registered locally in 2021. The organisationโs mission is to empower vulnerable people – particularly women, children, and youth – to become socially and economically self-reliant. OCDUโs work revolves around education, clean water and sanitation, food security, micro-enterprise, and vocational training.
Their programmes include providing clean drinking water and improving hygiene practices, supporting childrenโs education through school fees and supplies, promoting sustainable agriculture, and helping women and youth gain vocational skills such as tailoring, catering, or computer training. They also offer micro-loans to small community groups and entrepreneurs to help them start or expand income-generating projects.
OCDU welcomes both local and international volunteers. The organisation values volunteers who bring skills, ideas, and energy to ongoing community activities. Volunteers can get involved in areas like teaching, public health, training, agriculture, or social work, depending on their background and the organisationโs current needs.
