The Boom festival, held every two years in Idanha-a-Nova, Portugal, is built by a global, diverse crewโover 2,500 people work year-round across all stages, sustainability programs, infrastructure, arts, logistics and more. Volunteer roles are varied: from ecoโteam members maintaining compost toilets and waste systems, to carpenters, permaculture specialists, digital arts assistants, stewards, builders, food stall helpers, and general support teams. The volunteer application opens early in the year (for 2025, submissions began on February 3) and closes months later; accepted applicants are invited to interview and attend training sessions conducted in English. . In past years, volunteers were notified in May, after ticket phases. Volunteers receive full meal support via meal vouchers or food credits, plus a free festival ticket (refunded), and accommodation in dedicated volunteer or production camping areas alongside fellow crew members . Tasks are physically intensiveโe.g., running compost toilet teams, lifting, shifts during heat or nightโso sturdy resilience is key .
