Nepal volunteer exchange â help set up a Himalayan community library
Urgent call for adventurous librarians and book lovers. Do you have 2â12 weeks between March and December 2020? Would you like to volunteer in a brand new Himalayan library in Nepal and support children in a remote mountain district?
We have just built the very first library and school resource center in the mountainous region of
Rasuwa in Nepal.
Volunteers with some experience are required to help set up the community library (proper cataloguing, classification and indexing of books) and to teach a local member of staff the basics of how to run the library.
Mission. We believe that every child has the right to have access to books and the possibility to learn about the world. Our mission, in conjunction with grassroots organisation HHCP Nepal, is to empower marginalised communities in the Rasuwa region and improve the quality of life through education. The new library and resource centre will supply books to several surrounding schools, in both Nepali and English.
Nepal volunteer exchange â conditions
No participation fee is requested. Volunteers cover only their own transport to and from Nepal and the project site.
Food and accommodation are provided by the host community.
The library is situated close to the
Langtang National Park,
so there are many opportunities for trekking and exploring traditional Himalayan villages during your free time.
Listing update: This project was originally shared for the 2020 season. Information about dates, availability, travel rules and conditions may have changed. Please contact the organisers directly to confirm the current situation before making any plans.
