Erasmus+ in Hungary saw rising mobility in 2023, with more participants both arriving from abroad and embarking on exchanges themselves, especially in higher education, vocational training, and youth programs. The programme supports Hungarian students in studying, training, and gaining work experience abroad—typically lasting from two to twelve months—and also welcomes incoming students, staff, and youth professionals. Beyond individual mobility, Hungary actively engages in cooperative projects that foster digital innovation, inclusion, diversity, and educational partnerships under Key Actions 2 and 3, helping institutions share best practices and modernize their systems. However, following concerns about academic freedom, more than 20 Hungarian universities were suspended from Erasmus+ and Horizon Europe funds in late 2022—a situation Hungary has since begun to address through legal reforms aimed at restoring access. All in all, Erasmus+ remains a vital gateway for Hungarian students, educators, and institutions to connect internationally while navigating ongoing political and institutional challenges.
