The Friends of Land Between the Lakes (LBLA) is a non-profit organization that collaborates with the U.S. Forest Service to provide educational programs, volunteer opportunities, and recreational activities in the Land Between the Lakes area.
Their mission is to preserve the natural and cultural heritage of the region while ensuring its sustainable use.
Volunteers with LBLA can engage in a variety of activities.
At the Homeplace 1850s Working Farm, participants immerse themselves in the life of a 19th-century pioneer by performing farm tasks in historical attire using period tools. At the Woodlands Nature Station, volunteers assist visitors by setting up educational exhibits, answering questions, or helping care for animals and maintain the gardens.
Another unique opportunity involves the Elk and Bison Prairie Bugle Corps, where volunteers monitor these majestic animals, educate visitors, and ensure safety.
For university students, the Alternative Break program allows them to spend their holidays participating in service projects at Land Between the Lakes. Shoreline and litter cleanup initiatives focus on preserving the area’s natural beauty, while photography volunteers capture moments that help promote LBLA’s activities and events.
