Volunteer at the International Foreign Language School in Cambodia

Cambodia, teaching English
Update message from the host, January 2019

Hello, voluntourists, I am Kreng Huy and I have a report update from my school project in Cambodia!

Our school is open since 2016- 2017. We help poor and rural students learning English. However, it turns out that this year we donโ€™t have enough financial support to keep up with this service. We have raised some money for them but it is not enough.

For this reason, additionally, to teaching and having a conversation in English, I also need some volunteers who can do fundraising for the school in exchange for hospitality.

IFLS report

In 2016, IFLS has been working well: we helped 900 students in the rural area and most of them give a smiling face to their studying. After that, 2017 we received donations from the families and the volunteers, and we earned our project in Cambodia around one thousand US dollars. In 2018, we were not as successful as earlier. IFLS got approved to give the scholarship selection test at secondary school to about 50 students to study in our school and 50 students at another primary school but we haven’t got enough financial support. This is why we now need experts fundraisers.

If you are one, feel free to contact me through the contact details below!

Non-volunteers can help too!

If you would like to help underprivileged Cambodian children by supporting their education, you may wish to make a donation of school supplies or money. Any amount, big or small, is a huge help. Also online-fundraiser are welcome to participate. See contact details.

Teaching English at the International Foreign Languages School (IFLS)

Hello, all travellers. I’m Kreng. I was born in Prey Phkoam village. And I opened the English school to help the students and children in Cambodia. We give the classes for volunteers to teach English for three or four hours a day and five days a week.

We need volunteers for three weeks to follow the program of teaching. Benefits know about culture and meet new people.
We provideย accommodation and food.
But you should help us with school. To keep for the children.
Volunteering exchange
You will be helping the students practice English by making conversations with the students and occasionally by leading classes. Your help would also be appreciated in other areas such as business, marketing, development of the school grounds and of course our tours.
For the past year, IFLS has been supported by volunteers, but this will by November 2016. This is why IFLS launched bicycles. These can replace some of the lost income, meaning that IFLS is one step closer to becoming self-sufficient.
We understand that backpackers are often on limited budgets and as such, donations from volunteers are appreciated but not expected. As a volunteer, if you do not wish to donate money, you may prefer to consider any of the following items:
  • School stationery
  • Exercise books (blank)
  • Materials for art projects
  • Picture books
  • Short and easy childrenโ€™s books
  • English workbooks (all levels)
  • Materials for the teachers
  • Board markers
Things to do in your free time
You can do with your free time as you wish. We have plenty of exciting ideas though. You could visit the old temple Phnom Da.
It’s a historical monument of Cambodia and was built in the 6th century. It’s also always fun to visit the local community. People here are very friendly and amazing. For local sights, you can visit the nearby pagoda or river. The people here speak Khmer and some of them can speak and understand a little of English.
Transportation and location info

The school/homestay is located in Prey Phkoam Village, which is a 1 hours drive away from Takeo City.

Phnom Penh city is just 2 hours from school.
There are many excellent cafes (with wifi), and attractions around the town centre.
It is also nice to explore the main market in town, though if it gets too busy, there is one a 50-minute ride away from the school as well.
From the school, you can catch a cheap bus to Phnom Penh City. An amazing city to get lost in.
To the south is Kampot province, which is a stunning place to visit.

  1. Hi, as a student I mostly want the experience appear on my resume. I wonder if you could provide a recognized reference for me after finished the, program?
And I wonder if I could take this program between Nov to Feb, which is my summer vacation. I am.an international student studying Australia, my IELTS score is 7, and I hope the program length is less than 1 month.
I hope you can clarify my doubts. thank you.
