Snorkeling
Snorkeling means swimming on the water with a mask, snorkel (snorkel note) and fins.
The seabed is really full of wonders, from which many writers, authors and set designers have drawn inspiration. There are colours, sounds, harmonies and magic…
This activity is open to all, there are no age restrictions and you don’t necessarily need to be a sportsman. Although anyone can put on two fins and a mask and “go to sea” to have fun in safety, even here, you have to follow some recommendations:
Choose the right material:
A mask that fits your face perfectly (later we will see how to choose the mask), a snorkel of adequate size (perhaps with a bleed valve), comfortable fins. As for the body, given that when you snorkel time passes quickly and you “risk” being in the water of the hours, you will need to choose a wetsuit to avoid heat loss but also so that you can protect yourself from sunlight and any stinging organisms (plankton, micro jellyfish, etc.)
If you are not very experienced or feel unsafe to swim in free water you can use special snorkeling jackets, very comfortable, little bulky and very floating…
Often the organized centres offer the possibility to rent the material and so if you do not have the opportunity to use it often (or change often sea) you can rent it at a low cost.
An experienced sea guide where you are will be able to take you to the best sites and at the best time to meet the most extraordinary creatures.
Better if you can do it with a guide: he will be able to explain to you what you will see. Even the sites that seem poor can hide very special and interesting organisms, whose life habits or behaviours can amaze and fascinate a lot.
Learn the techniques that will allow you to move in the water in full respect of the environment.
It is essential that the habitat remains intact. Let us always remember that we are guests in the water, welcome but always guests, and our impact and presence must be really reduced to a minimum.
Snorkeling in pairs or in groups is not only safer but also more fun…
…because you can share emotions with other enthusiasts like you.
All the seas are very rich and offer great opportunities for discovery to all those who wish to. For each place, however, you need the right equipment, the right knowledge and techniques and something that absolutely doesn’t hurt the right guides…
