Mountain 🏔️

Explore mountain volunteering opportunities and projects located in mountainous, alpine or highland regions around the world.
Opportunities may involve environmental conservation, community initiatives, farms, eco-projects, sustainable tourism, accommodation projects and other activities connected with life and work in mountain areas.
Some listings may be seasonal, archival or no longer active. Always check the publication date, exact location and current conditions directly with the host before making travel plans.
How to use this page
Open the opportunity that interests you and read the complete announcement. Look for the contact details at the end of the listing to find the host’s website, email address or application procedure.
Before applying, confirm the activities, weekly hours, days off, accommodation, meals, local transport, minimum stay and any fees, deposits or other financial arrangements directly with the host.
Some opportunities may be fair exchanges with no mandatory participant fee, while others may request a contribution or programme fee. If payment is required, ask for the exact amount, what it covers and the applicable payment, cancellation and refund conditions before making a commitment.
Voluntouring does not organise placements, select participants, arrange visas or mediate between volunteers and hosts. It does not process participant payments between travellers and host organisations. Publication on Voluntouring.org does not in itself constitute verification, endorsement or a recommendation of an opportunity.
Altitude, weather and remote locations
Mountain projects can involve rapidly changing weather, altitude, difficult roads, limited public transport and reduced access to medical services. Ask the host about the altitude of the project, seasonal accessibility, communications and the nearest suitable medical facility.
If the experience includes trekking, climbing, skiing or other outdoor activities, confirm what equipment, experience and supervision are required and make sure your insurance covers the activities and altitude involved.
Do not assume that a mountain project is easily accessible because accommodation is provided. Confirm how you will arrive, how you could leave independently and what happens if weather conditions interrupt transport.
Mountain work and safety
Projects may include farming, forestry, trail maintenance, construction, animal care or other physical activities. Ask about training, protective equipment and supervision before undertaking unfamiliar or potentially hazardous tasks.
If regular productive work is carried out for a commercial tourism, accommodation or agricultural business, also check whether the arrangement may be treated as employment under local labour and immigration rules.
