Kindergarten 🧸📚

Explore kindergarten volunteering opportunities involving supervised support in early years education settings around the world.
Activities vary considerably between projects. Some volunteers may assist educators with play, creative activities, language practice or classroom preparation, while other opportunities may involve practical work such as organising materials, gardening, maintenance or improving the kindergarten environment.
What counts as kindergarten volunteering? 🧸📚
The meaning of kindergarten varies between countries, but it generally refers to an early childhood or pre-primary educational setting. It does not automatically mean that the volunteer will teach independently or provide childcare.
Safeguarding and role boundaries
Roles involving young children should be clearly defined and supervised by the regular educational team. Volunteers should not replace qualified teachers or childcare staff, take unsupervised responsibility for children or assume that enthusiasm alone is sufficient preparation for an educational or care role.
Before applying, ask about screening, training, daily supervision, the organisation’s safeguarding policy and its rules on photographs, personal information and contact with children. For additional guidance, read Volunteering with children: safer alternatives.
How to use this page
Check the publication date and current availability, then confirm the children’s age group, exact volunteer activities, required experience or qualifications, weekly schedule, minimum stay, accommodation, meals and any programme costs. Ask whether the role involves educational support, practical assistance or childcare, as these responsibilities should not be treated as interchangeable.
Publication on Voluntouring.org does not constitute verification or endorsement of a kindergarten, school or programme.
