What is a camp?
A Camp is usually a long vacation where recreational and educational activities take place. It is also usually intended for a very young audience, usually between 8 to 25 years old.
Most of the camps are dedicated to sports. There are multi-sport Camps where you can practice multiple disciplines or Camps dedicated to a single sport.
Camps programs are the holiday chosen by most children who want to live an experience away from home, without crossing national borders or going abroad.
There are camps organized inside colonies, large dormitories or tourist villages, other associations choose instead to organize their activities in the hotel, both for the sake of convenience and safety for the participants.
A camp certainly has a lower cost than a study holiday abroad, sometimes is even free. Despite this, especially in recent years, many camps have included the study or teaching of a foreign language within their programs. It is a solution that parents really like and that does not dissatisfy the children, since it is stimulating and fun to study a language at a Camp (also see: Summer camp) rather than at school, with the awareness of dedicating the rest of the day to fun, as well as in the evening – thanks to evening entertainment inside the Camp.
Also, see the Summer camp section and the Workcamp section
There are many projects and various themes, one can work in the social field, with children, disabled people, needy people, humanitarian projects, cultural and archaeological projects, the organization of events, exhibitions and festivals, environmental protection projects or agriculture, or to projects of construction and maintenance of houses, public spaces and churches.
Requisites
You don’t need to have special skills to take part in a camp program. Just knowing a little English and have a great spirit of work, sharing and collaboration. Travel expenses and a registration fee, which includes health insurance, depends on the organizations; in some cases, they are at the volunteerโs expense, in other cases the host association will offer food and lodging instead, usually in dormitories, gyms or tents.
How to use this page
Click on the announcements that interest you the most. Check the date of the publication (some opportunities might be already expired). If the announcement is still valid, look for the โcontact detailsโ section. It is usually at the end of the project description. In that section, you can find free ways to get in touch with the hosting organization (website, e-mail, phone numbers, application form). Send the host a message and wait for a reply.
Noteโ
For several reasons, you may not always receive an answer from the hosts. Sometimes hosts live in remote areas with a bad internet connection. Sometimes volunteers messages are too many, so the hosts wonโt always be able to reply to all of the emails. For more information, please read our FAQ.
