It is estimated that every year between 8 and 12 million tons of waste end up in the seas and oceans of the world, the equivalent of 1 truck per minute.

Let’s take the Mediterranean Sea as an example. Though it only constitutes less than 1% of the surface of the sea and oceans, it is one of the 25 richest places of biodiversity and unfortunately, it is also the sixth area for waste accumulation in the world. In some regions, volunteers have surveyed 968 pieces of waste every 100 meters of beach. 80% of this waste is plastic, the most dangerous material, especially if dispersed in the environment.

We still need to do a lot to prevent all this waste from reaching the sea and beaches: we need to work on a circular economy, on new laws and also change our lifestyles.

And we can do a lot also by giving our contribution by cleaning the beaches!
