Some information about The Amazon Jungle

The Amazon Rainforest is the world’s largest forest and river basin. It has the largest number of species compared to the rest of the world.

This rainforest is home to between 10% and 15% – 1 in 10 – of the world’s known species. Of the plant species present, 75% are unique to this area. It is home to 3,000 species of fish, the highest number of freshwater fish species in the world.

Deforestation in the Amazon

Today, the Amazon is struggling with a high number of threats, mainly due to unsustainable development: we already have about 20% of the Amazon biome, which already constitutes what scientists call a ‘Tipping Point’ for the Amazon ecosystem.

Deforestation is the main threat to the Amazon, but concrete, urgent and immediate action is needed before we reach the tipping point of no return.

If the rate at which the Amazon is constantly being deforested continues, we estimate that by 2030, 27% – more than a quarter – of the Amazon biome will be treeless.
