How to use this page
Open the opportunity that interests you and read the full announcement carefully. Check the publication date, activity dates and any application deadline before contacting the host.
To apply or request more information, look for the contact details at the end of the listing. Depending on the project, these may include an official website, email address or application form.
Before accepting an opportunity, confirm the expected activities, weekly hours, days off, accommodation, meals, exact location, transport arrangements and any fees or contributions directly with the host or organisation.
Some projects may provide accommodation, meals or other forms of hospitality, while others may have different arrangements. Always confirm exactly what is included before making a commitment.
Voluntouring does not organise placements, select volunteers or mediate between volunteers and hosts. Older announcements may remain online for archival and informational purposes.
Visas and volunteering in Norway
Entry, residence and work requirements depend on your nationality, length of stay and the nature of the activities. Do not assume that visa-free or tourist entry automatically permits every type of volunteering or work exchange.
Norwegian immigration rules distinguish between different types of activity, including ordinary employment, work with humanitarian or non-profit organisations, exchange programmes and certain programme-based volunteering. Activities that resemble regular work, particularly for a commercial host, may be subject to work and residence requirements even when no salary is offered.
Citizens of EU and EEA countries are subject to different rules from citizens of other countries. If you are travelling from outside the EU or EEA, check carefully whether your proposed activities require a residence permit before accepting a placement.
For current information, consult the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI). UDI also provides specific information about exchange programmes, cultural activities and organisational work.
Insurance and practical arrangements
Make sure your insurance covers the activities involved in the project. Farming, construction, animal care, hiking, outdoor work and other practical activities may not automatically be covered by every standard travel policy.
If the project is located in a remote or rural area, ask about transport, suitable clothing, access to shops and essential services, emergency arrangements and the accommodation provided.
If a contribution or deposit is requested, ask for the exact amount, what it covers and whether it is refundable before making any payment.
For additional general guidance, read Voluntouring’s information about safety and legality in volunteering and work exchanges.
Important: project availability, accommodation arrangements, immigration requirements and insurance conditions can change. Confirm current information directly with the host and consult relevant official sources before making travel or financial commitments.
