How to use this archive
Open the opportunity that interests you and read the complete announcement. Check the publication date and look for the contact details at the end of the listing to find the organisation’s website, email address or application procedure.
Before applying, confirm the exact project location, activities, weekly hours, days off, supervision, accommodation, meals, local transport, minimum stay and any fees, deposits or other financial arrangements directly with the host.
Voluntouring does not organise placements, select volunteers, arrange visas or mediate between volunteers and hosts. Publication on Voluntouring.org does not in itself constitute verification, endorsement or a recommendation of an organisation or programme.
Accommodation, meals and participant fees
Some opportunities may be fair exchanges with no mandatory participant fee and may include accommodation or meals. Others may request a contribution or programme fee towards accommodation, food, transport, training or project activities.
A participant fee does not automatically make a project more or less responsible, effective or appropriate. If payment is required, ask for the exact amount, what it covers and the applicable payment, cancellation and refund conditions before making a commitment.
Voluntouring does not process participant payments between volunteers and hosts. Financial arrangements described in a listing should be confirmed directly with the organisation concerned.
Choosing a project responsibly
Make sure the proposed activities match your experience and qualifications. Healthcare, counselling, teaching and other professional roles may require specific credentials, local authorisation and appropriate supervision.
Projects involving children or vulnerable people should have clear safeguarding procedures, volunteer screening, supervision and appropriate role boundaries. For additional information, read Voluntouring’s guide to safer alternatives to volunteering with children.
Safety, visas and local conditions
Important: security conditions vary considerably across Central Africa. Current official travel advice warns against travel to several areas of Cameroon and to large parts of eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo.
If a project is located in a border region, eastern DRC or another area affected by specific travel warnings, confirm its exact location before making plans. Consult current travel advice for Cameroon or current travel advice for the Democratic Republic of the Congo as relevant.
Visa and immigration requirements also vary by country, nationality and planned activities. Do not assume that tourist or visitor status automatically permits every form of volunteering, professional activity or work exchange.
For general guidance, read Voluntouring’s information about visas for volunteering abroad and safety and legality in volunteering and work exchanges.
Important: project availability, participant fees, immigration requirements and local security conditions can change. Confirm current information directly with the host and relevant official authorities before making travel or financial commitments.
